Cowspot By Amy Shelver

I saw my first cow dog today.

Robust geometry
played Rorschach games on its white skin.

The usual wind howled down Bird Street,
raising skirts and ire.

Cowspot could be caught
on the edge of pavement and tar,
howling in sync with the wind…
spying for holes amongst the skirts.

The desolate, numb streets
casting up stones and bones.
